Heading North

We're on the I-75 now heading towards Michigan. I brought along the I-75 book from Mom's house, and have been amusing myself with all of the comments and hotel receipts from trips in the past. As I read it, I see that a lot of the comments were made by the Jim Rathbun family in what looks like a trip in 1999. Oops! I think this book belongs to you, and you should have it to place among the family archives. I will return it as soon as we are together again. A lot of the information in the book is outdated, but cute little notes from members of your family make it a great little momento. I like this one written at a gas station in Ohio. "Don't stop here, there's a guy with gold shoes and plastic bags on his hands", or something like that. We are spending tonight in Forsyth, Ga. So that we can eat at our favorite restaurant, Grits. I'd post pictures, but the internet is very slow in Georgia, y'all.

The picture of that book made me smile! It was fun to have on those trips. Sure brings back memories! I don't remember the guy with gold shoes, (but I've been known to wear that outfit to the gas station). I remember trying to count Waffle houses and trying to see where the northernmost waffle house was.

It always bugged us that the book says THE I-75. Who adds "The" to their hi-way names? Oh yeah, Aimee does now - The Richardson, The Park, The Dalton...Speaking of which...The Alaskan Milepost is just like this book - a mile by mile listing of what is on the roads in Alaska - an amazing book! Packed w? info and updated every year!

Yes, I noticed a lot of Waffle house notes, and also TCBY Yougart notes, I'm not sure if they are still in business.

I vaguely remember those books!!! What fun. Let's see, 1999... I don't believe I made that trip. I know the boys went one spring to drive Grandma and Grandpa's car up. I had to stay home and play water polo (not to worry, I do love water polo). What a find, though! Fun!

This is way too funny. Boy, do we remember using that book on one of our many trips down to see mom and dad. But on that one particular trip someone (whose initials start with A) had to use the bathroom (again!) so we stopped at a remote gas station in the middle of nothing and everything was strange. It was like a log cabin place bought by middle easterners. Turbins, gold shoes, baggies on the hands, and a sign on the wooden bathroom door, "Amerikas can use the toilet paper . . ", we can't remember it exactly. It was one of those laugh till you cry moments,. . .(after we got back in the car! We also enjoyed that book, but I don't remember the waffle houses. I'm so glad you are using it. Thanks for the memories! Safe travel big sister and Bill. See you soon!

That book was well used by everybody!

Oh! I guess it was the Thill family that made the comment about gold shoes and baggies! You are right, Jim, now everyone (except Sue) has used that book.
